Game on lower level

Lower-level Entertainment Headquarters
Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota

The Challenge
Transform a standard, unfinished walkout basement into dynamic spaces that entertain children and adults alike.

The Solution
In the main room, comfortable seating and a snack bar invite relaxation next to a gaming area surrounded by multiple flat-screen TVs. A 10-foot length of cabinets packs maximum function into an efficient space housing everything from refrigerator and dishwasher to microwave and ice maker. The separate theater includes a projection TV with fixed screen, surround sound and facilities for electronic games. Down the hall, clever details include a ventilated closet for organizing and storing sleeping bags and other outdoor equipment; a “boys” bathroom with electronic urinal; a sauna and guest room. All rooms are wired for extraordinary sound so everyone’s taste can be satisfied in various rooms at once.

Home Theater

The Challenge
Convert a dark, empty corner of a lower level into a comfortable, high-tech media showcase.

The Solution
Drama and fun are the starring elements in this room. A theatrical  marquee-style curve suspended from the ceiling draws your attention to the 106-inch fixed screen, which comes to life with projection TV and surround sound. In addition, the screen can become a super-sized display for video gaming. A custom-designed cabinet allows easy access to equipment. And sound-isolating design keeps the theater from disturbing the rest of the home.
