Basement Remodeling Project
Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota
The Challenge: Maximize the entertainment potential of
an unfinished lower level for a sports oriented family.
Change it into an exciting space for
family activities and entertaining.
The Solution: We designed and created a “sports bar”
at home, with a fully equipped kitchen and snack bar,
spacious gathering space highlighted by a stone fireplace,
and four televisions to catch all the sports action from
any vantage point. By removing a load-bearing wall, the
bar and kitchen area was carved from space that was
previously a storage room, and now includes full dishwasher,
refrigerator and sink. The custom entertainment
center and kitchen cabinetry are alder. Just out of the
photo, to the right of the bar, is a dedicated games area with
pool table and arcade games.
Lower-level Home Theater
Woodbury, Minnesota
The Challenge: Turn an unfinished lower level into
4-star entertainment space.
The Solution: A home theater with adjacent bar area is
the focus of this basement’s remodeling project. It also
includes a private exercise studio and a bathroom that
features a steam shower. Custom cabinetry houses speakers
and electronic equipment, while the TV screen retracts
when not in use. The customized maple bar features a
chiseled rock face-edge granite countertop, and is
highlighted with a raised glass snack bar that repeats the
chiseled rock face-edge motif. In-floor heat is used
throughout the entire lower level, including the distressed,
polished concrete floor in the exercise studio and bar area.
Lower-level Entertainment Headquarters
Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota
The Challenge: Transform a standard, unfinished walkout basement into dynamic spaces that entertain children and adults alike.
The Solution: In the main room, comfortable seating and a snack bar invite relaxation next to a gaming area surrounded by multiple flat-screen TVs. A 10-foot length of cabinets packs maximum function into an efficient space housing everything from refrigerator and dishwasher to microwave and ice maker. The separate theater includes a projection TV with fixed screen, surround sound and facilities for electronic games. Down the hall, clever details include a ventilated closet for organizing and storing sleeping bags and other outdoor equipment; a “boys” bathroom with electronic urinal; a sauna and guest room. All rooms are wired for extraordinary sound so everyone’s taste can be satisfied in various rooms at once.
Home Theater
Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota
The Challenge: Convert a dark, empty corner of a lower level into a comfortable, high-tech media showcase.
The Solution: Drama and fun are the starring elements in this room. A theatrical marquee-style curve suspended from the ceiling draws your attention to the 106-inch fixed screen, which comes to life with projection TV and surround sound. In addition, the screen can become a super-sized display for video gaming. A custom-designed cabinet allows easy access to equipment. And sound-isolating design keeps the theater from disturbing the rest of the home.
